Critical Thinking in a Data-Driven World

Statistics is one of the most practical and important math courses students can take in high school.  In this class, students learn the key concepts and tools used to collect, analyze, and interpret data — skills that are valuable in college, careers, and everyday decision-making.  Through discussions, hands-on activities, and real-world applications, students will design surveys and experiments, practice statistical simulations, and explore how data can be used to answer meaningful questions.  These courses emphasizes the full process of statistical inquiry:  asking thoughtful questions, gathering reliable data, analyzing results with appropriate methods, and drawing accurate conclusions.

Probability & Statistics

In a Probability and Statistics, class students will learn how to collect, organize, and interpret data to make informed decisions.  They will explore probability concepts to understand chance events, apply statistical methods to analyze real-world problems, and use technology to model and simulate data.  By the end of the course, students will be able to design experiments, interpret statistical results, and communicate findings clearly, building skills that are essential for college, careers, and everyday life.

The Statistical Reasoning course helps students deepen their understanding of statistical inquiry and the use of simulations.  Students will develop and refine investigative questions, design and carry out data collection plans, and apply appropriate graphical and numerical methods to analyze results.  They will then interpret their findings to connect back to the original question, with an emphasis on simulations and technology-based tools.

AP Statistics introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data.  Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities, and the design of surveys and experiments, students build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This course is especially important because statistical literacy is essential in today’s world — helping students make informed decisions, evaluate information, and prepare for future academic and career opportunities.
